Casper van Koppenhagen

Biography/biografie

Casper van Koppenhagen (550) is a rehabilitation physician and non-practicing sports physician. Casper’s journey through the medical landscape has taken him to many places as a sports physician for the KNVB (Royal Dutch Football Association) and Vitesse, as a rehabilitation physician in Nottwil, Switzerland, the De Hoogstraat spinal cord injury department, the UMC Utrecht, on the Board of Directors at Basalt and at the Erasmus MC. He has always combined his work with local and national board memberships or with outdoor activities such as the Handbike Battle, the editorship in chief of the Dutch Journal of Rehabilitation Medicine or education and patient care in Indonesia with the Van Creveld Clinic. By the Association of Rehabilitation Physicians, he was chosen as the most promising AIOS in Rehabilitation Medicine in 2009, “Lecturer of the Year” in 2016 and received the “van Hoytema Trophy” in 2024 for his services to rehabilitation medicine, both spoken and written. Casper writes blogs and makes podcasts under KopCast and, among others, for the VvAA and Medisch Contact about happiness, diversity & inclusion, patient stories, sports, and art. He has published two books, “Bram Breedveld – Striker of the Dutch National Team” and “I Had You Thought My Child.” For several years now, Casper has regularly served as a workshop facilitator, a professional trainer for BFC Mindfull & Compassion, and as a chairperson for (scientific) conferences.

Casper considers himself a “beyond believer” in prehabilitation and embraces the goals of organizing this exciting conference.

Casper van Koppenhagen (550 is revalidatiearts en niet praktiserend sportarts. Casper’s tocht door het medische landschap bracht hem op vele plaatsen als sportarts van de KNVB en Vitesse, als revalidatiearts in Nottwil Zwitserland, De Hoogstraat afdeling dwarslaesie, het UMC Utrecht, als Raad van Bestuur bij Basalt en bij het Erasmus MC. Hij combineerde zijn werk altijd met bestuurswerk lokaal of landelijk of met buitenactiviteiten als de HandbikeBattle, het hoofdredacteurschap van het Nederlands Tijdschrift voor Revalidatiegeneeskunde of onderwijs en patientenzorg in Indonesië met de van Creveldkliniek. Door de Vereniging van Revalidatieartsen werd hij respectievelijk in 2009 verkozen tot meest veelbelovende AIOS Revalidatiegeneeskunde, in 2016 tot “Docent van het jaar” en verkreeg hij in 2024 “van Hoytema trofee” voor zijn verdiensten voor de revalidatiegeneeskunde in woord en geschrift. Casper schrijft blogs en maakt podcasts onder KopCast en oa bij de VvAA en Medisch Contact over geluk, diversiteit&inclusie, patientenverhalen, sport en kunst. Hij publiceerde twee boeken “Bram Breedveld – spits van Oranje” en “Ik had je gedacht mijn kind”. Sinds een aantal jaren treedt Casper regelmatig op als workshopbegeleider, vakgroeptrainer van BFC Mindfull&Compassion en als dagvoorzitter van (wetenschappelijke) congressen.

Casper ziet zichzelf als een ‘beyond believer’ van prehabilitatie en omarmt de doelstellingen van de organisatie van dit op voorhand al boeiende congres.
