Prof. Dr. Gerard Danjoux
Biography
Professor Gerard Danjoux is a Consultant Anaesthetist at South Tees Hospitals in the UK (2002 to date). He holds Honorary Chairs at Hull York Medical School and Teesside University and co-founded the North Yorkshire Academic Alliance of Perioperative Medicine (2022). He is Vice-President of the International Prehabilitation and Perioperative Exercise Testing Society (iPOETTS; 2020 to date) and regularly teaches as international faculty on Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing.
Clinical interests include evaluation, risk assessment, preparation and perioperative care of high-risk patients for surgery. He has an extensive academic track record leading the first studies internationally in prehabilitation for patients with vascular disease. In 2018 he implemented the UK’s first community-based Prehabilitation programme (Prepwell). Latterly his interests have focussed on developing and testing digital solutions to support prehabilitation before surgery (iPrepwell). As a high-level stakeholder he helped secure £7M of funding to develop and implement a regional programme (Waiting Well, 2022) to support the preoperative physical, mental and social health of patients from socially deprived areas in the North-East of England.
